Short answer
Yes, in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Hindi: a microphone button beside the chat box lets a visitor speak a question. Their words appear as they talk, and pressing the button again sends the question. If the browser can't use the microphone, the room says so and they type instead.
How it works
- 1The visitor presses the microphone button, named Ask out loud, beside the chat box or on the What would you like to see? card.
- 2They allow the microphone when the browser asks.
- 3The box shows Listening…, and their words appear as they speak.
- 4They press the button again, now named Stop and send.
- 5In the chat, the question is sent and answered, and the answer is spoken when the guide's voice is on. On the first card, the words go into the box, so they can check them and press Reply.
Good to know
- Speaking pauses the guide's voice and the recording.
- Listening stops after 60 seconds, and what was heard so far is used.
- It works in the demo on your website too.
If it doesn't work
- If the browser blocks the microphone, or there isn't one, the room says "The microphone is not available. Type your question instead."
- If the voice service fails, the room says "Could not answer that question." Typing the question works as usual.
- In the other languages there's no microphone button, so visitors type.
Where it works
Spoken questions work when the demo is in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Hindi. The demo comes in 17 languages; in the others, visitors type, and the guide still answers in their language.
