Can my demo button name the visitor's company before they type an email?

Short answer

Yes, when you turn on Recognize visitors' companies in Demo settings. A visitor on a company's own network sees Get a live demo for Acme on your button, and the demo opens Tailored for Acme. It names only the company, never the person, and is off for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland.

Turn it on

  1. 1Open Demo settings, then Guide and call to action.
  2. 2Tick Recognize visitors' companies and press Save settings.
  3. 3Add a line to your privacy policy, such as: We use visitors' IP addresses to recognize the company they work for.

If you don't see the setting, company recognition isn't switched on for DemoPage yet. Talk to us.

When it names a company

  • The visitor's network belongs to a business, such as an office connection, and the business has a website.
  • Not on phone networks, VPNs, hosting or cloud ranges, security gateways that many companies route traffic through, or addresses known for abuse. Those show your usual button.
  • Not for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, or in a place we can't tell, and not when the browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.
  • Your button changes only when it uses the default label, Get a live demo. A label you set with data-label stays as you wrote it.
  • Once a visitor gives a work email, the demo uses what it finds from the email instead.

What's kept

  • The visitor's IP address goes to ipapi.is, an IP-data provider, to look up the network's owner. DemoPage keeps only a salted hash of the address with the answer, for a day, so a repeat visit doesn't look it up again.
  • Only your demo room and pages on your own website or your extra websites can ask for a visitor's company.
  • Your team doesn't get an alert from it. Alerts still start from a work email.
