How do I get demo lead alerts in Slack?

Reviewed

Short answer

Slack alerts are included from Starter. On the Leads tab, open Where alerts go and press Add to Slack, then pick the channel your team watches, like #demo-leads. If you don't see Add to Slack, make an incoming webhook for the channel in Slack, paste it under Slack alerts, press Save, then press Send a test. On the trial and Free plans, alerts come by email; a channel you saved shows as Kept and posts again when you pick Starter or above.

With Add to Slack

  1. 1Sign in to your portal, open the Leads tab, and open Where alerts go.
  2. 2Under Slack alerts, press Add to Slack.
  3. 3In Slack, pick the channel and press Allow. For a private channel, you have to be a member of it.
  4. 4Back in your portal, open the Leads tab and Where alerts go again. Slack alerts now says Posting to and your channel, and a test message is in that channel.

If Slack says an admin has to approve new apps, ask them, or paste a webhook instead. If your portal says the test message didn't post, press Send a test. If it says Slack wasn't connected or didn't finish connecting, press Add to Slack again.

With an incoming webhook

  1. 1Open api.slack.com/apps and press Create New App, then From scratch.
  2. 2Name it DemoPage alerts, pick your workspace, and press Create App.
  3. 3Under Features, open Incoming Webhooks and switch it on.
  4. 4Press Add New Webhook to Workspace, pick the channel, and press Allow.
  5. 5Copy the webhook address, which starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.
  6. 6In your portal, open the Leads tab and Where alerts go. If you see Add to Slack, press Or paste a webhook first.
  7. 7Paste the address under Slack alerts, press Save, then press Send a test.

Check that it works

Press Send a test. The channel gets a message that starts with DemoPage is connected, and your portal says Posted. Check the channel in Slack.

If it didn't post, your portal shows Slack's answer, such as Slack said HTTP 404 (no_service). See what Slack's answer means.

You can send up to 6 tests an hour.

What DemoPage can do in Slack

It posts into the one channel you picked. It can't read messages, see other channels, or list the people in your workspace.

It keeps only the webhook address and the channel's name. If you pasted a webhook, your portal shows only the end of the address.

The channel gets the same alerts as your inboxes, plus the Monday summary. See where leads go for what sends an alert, and Security for how DemoPage handles your data.

Change it or turn it off

To stop email alerts as well, see pausing lead alerts.

  • Change channel: shown when you connected with Add to Slack. It opens Slack so you can pick another channel.
  • Change: shown when you pasted a webhook. Paste a different one, then press Save.
  • Turn off: stops Slack alerts and saves by itself, so there's no need to press Save. To remove DemoPage from your workspace too, use Manage apps in Slack.
